Nursery Colors

The past few weeks have been a mad dash to finish our nursery renovation.  As of right now, the baby is due in six weeks and we have had no break.  OK, so what I really want to say is I have had no break.  I'm so hoping that in the next week or two we wrap everything up and can just relax until the arrival of our little bundle.

Just as we did the first time, we're not finding out the sex of the baby until the birth.... which leaves us to do what with the nursery.  With Grady's nursery, we went neutral and had fun with murals on the walls.  But this time I really wanted to make the nursery whatever the baby was... but we're making that difficult, aren't we?  We are torn as to leaving the nursery just primed until the baby is born.... and then paint later.... or find a color that can go either way for the walls.... and paint the ceiling a gender color.

So, I have been looking online and have seen some photos of colors I really like....

I love this gray.  And it looks so crisp with the white!

I also really like the gray and yellow together.  Possibly for a boy?  Gray walls with a yellow ceiling?  And I even found a polka dot stencil online.... to do an accent wall maybe?

And here is another example of gray and yellow... although with a newborn I'm pretty sure I will not have the energy to paint stripes!!  We'll stick with a solid ceiling color... but isn't this awesome anyway?

For a girl?  Gray and pink.  This is such a perfect combo to me... it looks so soft and classic!

And on a side note... look at this painted ceiling.  Isn't it great?  I've been hesitant to get creative with our ceilings... afraid that I will make the room look smaller or make it feel like the ceiling is closing down on us.  But this is so pretty...

This is such a great boy's nursery!!  I wish I was this creative!!

So there you have it.  Some of our nursery ideas.  To paint.  Or not to paint.  And what colors?  I mean.... I look and start seeing so many things... I even start thinking... should we just go gender neutral and even choose a pretty green or something??  No idea..... I go back and forth!!

Either way, I hope the room with be finished soon and we can kick back and relax for a few weeks.  During that time, maybe we'll decide!  :)

Hey!
Love all these rooms! I have 2 gray rooms in my house, the living room has a ton of windows, and I love it. The bedroom is the same color, but not so much natural light and I hate it. It's very cold. So all these pics have a ton of light thrown in for the photo shoot, making it hard to tell. Maybe go with a lighter shade and that will help. I just bought new no VOC paint from Sherwin Williams and it is a DREAM to paint with. They matching my previous Home Depot paint like a dream!

Hope you are well:)

Hi!! I came across your blog from Pinterest and was curious to know if you ended up doing a gray and white polka dot wall in your nursery? And if you did, what stencil did you use and how do you recommend doing it? I think I can see polka dots in the background of your sweet girl laying in her crib :) any tips or advice you have would be awesome! Thanks so much!

Hi Christina! Yes, I did do a polka dot wall in then nursery. I used light pink paint (the same color I used for the ceiling)... but when I used it on top of the gray, it appears more white than pink. I used the large polka dot stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils (online). They provide some instruction videos online. It is quite simple, but very time consuming. A few things I did notice while doing the stencil: The paint will get on the back side of the stencil and messed up my clean lines... so I washed it every so often and then continued. I also did two coats of paint on each dot. It was better for me to do two light coats, than one heavy coat. I found out that the thicker the coat, the more it would smudge and that is when it would get on the back. Also, the instructions tell you to tape all four corners, and I did, but as I painted each dot... I also took my free hand and pressed the stencil against the wall real hard so I wouldn't have any gaps. After it was all finished, I took a very small paint brush and cleaned up any smudges or excess paint.

Those are really the only issues I had. It just takes quite a while. I split mine up between two days. I have two windows on that wall that I stenciled and I think that added to my time... having to work around those. If I had had a solid wall, I'm sure it would have gone quite a bit faster! I'll try to add some photos to the blog soon showing the nursery. I have bee so behind on that!! :) If you do a similar project, let me know how it goes!! :)

Thank you so so much for the advice! I would love to see pictures! I'm still up in the air about what to do with our nursery, but I'm running out of time...eeek!! I've always loved that polka dot wall in the PBK catalog, but seeing it in an actual nursery would be awesome!! Can't wait to see the pics :) Thanks again for all the advice!
