Baby Girl's Nursery

Little Sweet Cheeks is now eight months old.  EIGHT MONTHS!  Where has the time gone?  She has gone from a calm, somewhat quiet baby... to full out personality plus!  In just a month and a half she has starting sitting up unassisted, crawling and pulling up in her crib to a standing position.

I told my husband we will be handing her our car keys tomorrow.  WAHHHH

It's going by way too fast.

She is such a little blessing and it is so fun to watch her learn and grow like a weed.  Big brother adores her and she loves to interact with him.  It will be fun to see how these two act together throughout the years.  I'm sure she will learn tons from him.... the good, the bad and the dirty/ugly/smelly!  HA

Since Lydia was born, we've had to continue with some finishing touches, but nothing major.  There are still some things I would like to do in the nursery as far as decorating... and I'll continue to let that trickle in here and there.

Here is what it looks like today...

World's most comfortable recliner/glider... with the world's ugliest fabric.  It will be getting reupholstered!

 POM POM's!!

Pottery Barn Kids finials, curtain rods and black out curtains (a MUST for baby!).

An old side table that has been sanded and re-painted.

One of the original fixtures in the house.... repaired and painted.

Decoupaged wooden letters.

Footprints for my baby girl's first year.

Nursery Work

Last year,  while pregnant, we worked on the bedroom that would be the nursery.  We were really down to crunch time and had to work every weekend.  Weekends of the flu hitting our house and the holidays continued to set us back.  We did finish in time though and it was a huge relief.

Here are some photos of what the nursery looked like before we started the project.

We went from the horrible paint color, chipping paint, old windows, nasty closet with old shelving....

To freshly refinished trim throughout the room, repaired walls, new windows, repaired closet with new shelving, and thank goodness.... some new paint on walls and ceiling.

Stay tuned for the finished room photos!

Lydia Anne

Well... after four and a half months later... we're here to say.... it was a baby GIRL!!!  I still cannot believe it!  I felt so sure I would have another boy... but Hank's prediction was correct.

My due date was Saturday, March 24th.

I had my last doctor's appointment Thursday, March 22 and during that appointment I was only dilated 2cm or so.  So, the doctor said if I didn't go into labor naturally, they wanted to induce me a week later.  I DID NOT want to be induced.  I knew I would be anxious knowing that on a specific date I would go into labor and I also had heard being induced could make the process so much slower than natural labor.  What I really wanted was for my water to just break and go into labor one day like when I had Grady.  I had even asked my chiropractor was there anything that could help bring on labor naturally and he said there were some pressure points stuff they could do.... or even some massage therapists could help bring on labor.  If that's what it would take, then I planned on trying that before I went a whole week longer.

Grady and I ran some errands while we were in town that day and came home.  I put Grady down for his regular nap, ate some lunch and finally reclined back in bed to read a book and relax.

No longer than ten minutes after I sat down.... I literally heard and felt a "pop" on lower left side of my abdomen.... and my water broke!!  I called Hank at work and told him and he headed home to get us.

Everything went so smoothly.  I did ask for an epidural, but the anesthesiologist was busy with other patients and in the operating room.... that I hate to wait extra long.  I went through the whole process "naturally" (which means screaming, writhing and other things I will not mention) until I finally was given the epidural 45 minutes before the baby was born.  Poor Hank... he was run ragged giving me cold cloths on my forehead and neck, giving me the oxygen mask (so I wouldn't pass out!), ice chips, etc, etc, etc.

At around 12:00 AM... it was time to push and our wonderful Dr Morales was there!

Exactly eight hours of labor later, at 12:17 AM.... our sweet baby girl was born.

And of course... she was just PERFECT!!!

She was 7 lbs, 13 oz.

And here is our little burrito at home, just a few days old.... she loves being swaddled....

And so quickly.... she has grown and changed...

Six weeks old

Two and a half months old

Four months old

She is such a blessing and such a precious little baby.... so calm and sweet.  She slept with me most nights until she was a few weeks old, and then we started letting her sleep in her swing... she loves to be swaddled and have the swinging motion.  And she sleeps through the night and might get up only once to eat!!  So, we're all going to get extra rest while we can!  She can co-sleep more when we transition her to her crib.  She has been so alert... it's crazy!  This little girl doesn't let anything get out of her sight!  She is giggling so much now and holds and grabs everything.  She also wants to sit up so badly (she loves her Bumbo seat).  I cannot believe how quickly she is growing and changing.... it goes by too fast.

I still cannot believe we have a baby girl!!!

Nursery Colors

The past few weeks have been a mad dash to finish our nursery renovation.  As of right now, the baby is due in six weeks and we have had no break.  OK, so what I really want to say is I have had no break.  I'm so hoping that in the next week or two we wrap everything up and can just relax until the arrival of our little bundle.

Just as we did the first time, we're not finding out the sex of the baby until the birth.... which leaves us to do what with the nursery.  With Grady's nursery, we went neutral and had fun with murals on the walls.  But this time I really wanted to make the nursery whatever the baby was... but we're making that difficult, aren't we?  We are torn as to leaving the nursery just primed until the baby is born.... and then paint later.... or find a color that can go either way for the walls.... and paint the ceiling a gender color.

So, I have been looking online and have seen some photos of colors I really like....

I love this gray.  And it looks so crisp with the white!

I also really like the gray and yellow together.  Possibly for a boy?  Gray walls with a yellow ceiling?  And I even found a polka dot stencil online.... to do an accent wall maybe?

And here is another example of gray and yellow... although with a newborn I'm pretty sure I will not have the energy to paint stripes!!  We'll stick with a solid ceiling color... but isn't this awesome anyway?

For a girl?  Gray and pink.  This is such a perfect combo to me... it looks so soft and classic!

And on a side note... look at this painted ceiling.  Isn't it great?  I've been hesitant to get creative with our ceilings... afraid that I will make the room look smaller or make it feel like the ceiling is closing down on us.  But this is so pretty...

This is such a great boy's nursery!!  I wish I was this creative!!

So there you have it.  Some of our nursery ideas.  To paint.  Or not to paint.  And what colors?  I mean.... I look and start seeing so many things... I even start thinking... should we just go gender neutral and even choose a pretty green or something??  No idea..... I go back and forth!!

Either way, I hope the room with be finished soon and we can kick back and relax for a few weeks.  During that time, maybe we'll decide!  :)

Ten on Ten: February 2012

It's not fun when someone has already filed taxes under your SSN!!!

Gearing up for Baby.  Starting to buy diapers, etc with coupons and sales.

Back pain is no fun during pregnancy...

We were playing outside, but where on earth did the rain come from?

My little boy's cars all lined up for the Lego car wash...

Hey!  Look what I found today!  My toes!
I cannot begin to explain what great lengths it took to paint those bad boys.....

Time to read during Nap Time.  :)

Grocery list....

Should I be this tired this early?

Time for a Tylenol if I'm going to sleep tonight...
